Welcome to the Committee for Melbourne

We are an independent Member network of Melbourne leaders working together to encourage a competitive business culture and enhance Melbourne's liveability.

The organisation was founded in 1985, by a group of citizens concerned that Melbourne was losing its place among the world’s great cities.

Our 170 Members represent the most senior levels of Melbourne’s major corporations, institutions and organisations and are focussed on outcomes that lead to positive change in Climate Change, Higher Education and Transport in Melbourne.

Our Current Initiatives

Taskforces are our core ‘business’. Taskforces are the primary way we engage and interact with our Members and leverage our strengths to make a difference to the city.

They are an intersection point for our Members representing business, science, academia, community and government.

Our current initiatives include our Climate Change Taskforce, which draws record participation from our Member network, and is preparing a report on the impacts and implications of a change in climate for Melbourne leading up to 2030. It is also looking at the key opportunities associated with Climate Change in Melbourne for the business, community and government.

And, for the thirteenth year running, our leadership development program for Melbourne’s future leaders, the Future Focus Group is embodying our 'ideas to outcomes' ethos with participants initiating and implementing, usually within two years, their own projects to make a tangible, positive difference to the city.
